The journey for Max began with experiencing tailored shirts – starting off with an obscure tailor that promised 3 shirts for $200. At first, it seemed like a good deal; however, upon closer inspection, the qualities of these shirts were compromised with the sin of polyester.
Frustrated with the products of a “fly by night” tailor and an oversized hand-me-down suit, Max finally decided to call me up after seeing the 1st post from the Asian Gentleman blog. He wanted something different, something of a much higher quality, something that he could impose his style – bespoke tailoring was just what he needed.
I have known Max from University about 3 years ago. He is intelligent and sociable, with a bright future with the civil service. However, having the intellect and personality does not create the first impression. The first impression of someone is usually created when they see you for the first time and thus, the visual impact that you create is important.
Without any hesitation, I brought Max to the tailor that I went to make my first suit. Nested along the fringe of orchard road is “Justmen” and you may take the word literally. For the past forty years, these tailors have honed their skills in making shirts and suits for men while paying close attention to detail. As such, I have utmost faith in their skill and recommendations.
Max finally got a taste of bespoke tailoring after I introduced him to my tailor. In short, here is what Max is going to get:
1) Midnight Blue Full Canvassed Suit
2) Lining customized to his preference – Max was initially hesitant with a different coloured lining but realized that though the suit style may be conservative, he could have the luxury of imposing his own style via the lining.
3) Four inner pockets
4) Notch Lapel – Hand sewed
5) Buttonholes – Hand stitched
6) Working buttons
7) Flat front pants with slanted pockets (pockets customized to his liking)
8) Classic White shirt that follows the rules
Stay tuned for the post where we will show you Max’s completed suit.
Meanwhile, you may take a look at the pictures below to see Max’s journey. At the very end of the post, would be the picture of my first bespoke suit made in early 2011.
Next Up: The Shirt!
Let’s wait and see the results in about 2-3 weeks time!
For now, here is an example of what to expect – my first suit made in 2011.
Maybe something from this mill.
Stay Tuned and Stay True!
